Casement uPVC Windows Melbourne

Casement windows are hinged on one side and swing open from the opposite edge — the most common window style in European construction and increasingly the choice for quality Australian homes. The side-hinged operation allows the full sash to open, providing maximum ventilation comparable to the entire frame area. Full perimeter European sealing compresses the sash against gaskets on all four sides when closed, achieving acoustic and thermal performance that outperforms any sliding or hung window of the same size. Novalite manufactures casement uPVC windows in single, double and triple-lite configurations.

Key Features

Casement uPVC Windows — Features & Benefits

Full perimeter sealing

Multi-point locking compresses sash against perimeter gaskets on all four sides — far superior to sliding window seals.

Maximum ventilation

Full sash swings open exposing the entire frame width to airflow.

Multi-point locking

Hardware engages at multiple points around the frame simultaneously for security and sealing.

Double glazed standard

Argon-filled double glazed units with Low-E coating as standard. Triple glazed available.

Single, double & triple lite

Available in one, two or three sash configurations for any opening width.

Full Perimeter European Sealing

The defining performance advantage of casement windows over sliding alternatives is the perimeter seal. When a casement sash is closed and locked, multi-point hardware pulls the sash tight against rubber gaskets running around all four sides of the frame. This compression seal creates a weathertight barrier around the entire perimeter of the glass. Sliding windows can only seal on two sides (top and bottom tracks) with brush seals on the sliding edges. The result is that casement windows provide substantially better acoustic and thermal performance than sliding windows of equivalent size.

Maximum Ventilation

Because the entire sash swings open from the frame, casement windows expose the full frame width to airflow. A double or triple-lite casement with all sashes open provides ventilation equivalent to almost the entire frame area — significantly more than a 2-lite slider of the same width, which can only open approximately half its area. For rooms where ventilation is a priority — bedrooms, living areas, home offices — casement windows are the superior specification.

Common Questions

Casement uPVC Windows — FAQ

Are casement windows suitable as plastic windows for Melbourne homes? +
Casement uPVC windows — sometimes called plastic windows by people unfamiliar with the uPVC term — are an excellent choice for Melbourne homes. The combination of full perimeter sealing, maximum ventilation and custom sizing makes them one of the most versatile window styles in the Novalite range.
Do casement windows open inward or outward? +
Novalite casement windows open outward as standard, which is the European and Australian convention. Outward-opening casements protect the hinge and hardware from weather and allow the sash to act as a scoop, directing wind into the room for effective cross ventilation. Inward-opening configurations are available on request for specific applications.
What is the difference between casement and awning windows? +
Casement windows are side-hinged and swing open from the side edge. Awning windows are top-hinged and open outward from the bottom. The primary practical difference is that awning windows can ventilate in rain (the projecting sash shelters the opening gap from rainfall) while casement windows cannot remain open in rain without some water ingress. For wet-area applications, awning is the better choice. For maximum ventilation in protected locations, casement provides more airflow.
